A little over a year ago we chose from three biopics, and now we’re doing it again. It’s tough to pick a favourite genre of film, but put a gun to my head and make me pick and I’ll probably say biopics. Which life-and-times movie should be our movie of the week?
1. The Elephant Man (1980, IMDb #144)
A Victorian surgeon rescues a heavily disfigured man who is mistreated while scraping a living as a side-show freak. Behind his monstrous facade, there is revealed a person of intelligence and sensitivity.
2. Into the Wild (2007, IMDb #162)
After graduating from Emory University, top student and athlete Christopher McCandless abandons his possessions, gives his entire $24,000 savings account to charity and hitchhikes to Alaska to live in the wilderness. Along the way, Christopher encounters a series of characters that shape his life.
3. The Wolf of Wall Street (2013, IMDb #146)
Based on the true story of Jordan Belfort, from his rise to a wealthy stock-broker living the high life to his fall involving crime, corruption and the federal government.
